     Professor Thomas C. Meisel (Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria) is a renowned expert in the field of analytical geochemistry. His outstanding contributions are mainly in the following areas.

(1) Definition of the 187Os/188Os ratio of the primitive Earth's upper mantle;

(2) Development of measurement procedures for PGE with small measurement uncertainties;

(3) Development of a procedure for the measurement of REE superlevels in food for the purpose of establishing geographical traceability;

(4) Characterization of geological reference materials for PGE and Re mass fractions.

His more than 200 research papers have been published in journals such as Nature, Reviews in Mineralogy & Geochemistry, EPSL, GCA,JAAS, Chemical Geology, Analyst,CMP,Lithos. The SCI citation of these paper has been more than 8000 times. In recent years, he has also engaged in the research and development of reference materials, geochemical analysis methods and applications. He is also the editor-in-chief of GGR.

He has received Antarctic Service Medal (1997); Richard J. Fruehan Award (2024); and   Hunt-Kelly Outstanding Paper Award(2025).

        报告摘要:

This presentation provides an overview of the significant milestones and learnings from 37 years of geoanalytical work, focusing on Rare Earth Elements (REE) and Platinum Group Elements (PGE) analysis. It covers various topics including isotope ratio methods, geological reference materials, sample preparation techniques, and the development of PGE reference materials. The presentation also discusses the challenges and solutions in PGE digestion and measurement, highlighting the importance of method validation and the use of different digestion principles. Key insights from personal experiences and collaborations with various institutions are shared to provide a comprehensive understanding of the advancements in geoanalytical techniques.
